New Beginnings: Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council's AGM Election Results 2023

Introduction

The Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council recently held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 20th of September 2023, marking a significant moment in the council's history. The AGM, with 144 Members in attendance, was a momentous occasion as it showcased the dedication and commitment of the outgoing Board of Directors whilst paving the way for new leadership and fresh perspectives. We will share the election results and express our gratitude to the outgoing Board of Directors for their invaluable contributions to the Community, Land and Business Plan 2020-2024. 

New Board Members Elected

The following Board of Directors were elected at the AGM held Wednesday 20 September 2023. The new Board will continue to steer the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council towards a promising future, ensuring that the community continues to ‘Connect, Belong, and Thrive.’ These dedicated individuals were chosen by the council's Members, reflecting the collective vision and aspirations of the community. While the entire council is eager to embrace the new board's leadership, it's essential to recognise the individuals who were elected: 

  1. Troy Davis (Chairperson) 
  2. Diane Van Aken (Deputy Chairperson) 
  3. Bernadette Compton 
  4. Steve Ingram (Public Officer) 
  5. Amanda Roa 
  6. Tony Scholes 
  7. Roxanne Sheridan 
  8. Gail Smith 
  9. Roslyn Way 
  10. Sandra Wilson 

As we welcome new leaders, it's essential to take a moment to express our gratitude to the outgoing Board Directors who have worked tirelessly to shape the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council over the past years. Their dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in advancing the council's mission and goals, particularly in helping our community ‘Connect, Belong, and Thrive.’ The Board of Directors played a crucial role in the development of the Community, Land and Business Plan for the years 2020-2024. Their strategic insights have paved the way for numerous achievements and initiatives that have benefited the community as a whole, strengthening the bonds that enables our community and Members to truly Connect with one another.

While their official roles on the Board come to an end, their legacy will endure in the progress and success of the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council. Their dedication to the community and their tireless efforts to protect and promote the rights and interests of the local Aboriginal community. 

Looking to the Future

The AGM election results mark the beginning of a new chapter, filled with hope, determination, and a shared commitment to the betterment of the community, ensuring that we continue to ‘Connect, Belong, and Thrive.’ 

We would like to also thank the Office of the ALRA and NSWALC for their continued support to the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council and to the staff that have worked diligently behind the scenes to ensure the AGM ran smoothly. 

The next Members Meeting will be held at Liverpool Catholic Club on the 13 December 2023
